Homework
Homework: Your student will bring home a homework packet every Monday. This packet will include, but is not limited to assignments in the following areas: Math and Language Arts. This homework is to be completed and returned to school on or before Friday or the last day of the school week.
Spelling: On the first page of the packet your child will have written their spelling words. Practicing the words a couple nights of the week will increase your student’s mastery of these words. Tests will always be on Friday (or on the last school day of the week.) Please put an X in the spelling box on the packet when your child studies their words (at least 2-3 nights).
Home Reading: Your child is expected to read 20 minutes every school day. Also on the first page of this packet is a place to record how many minutes your child reads each night.
Rocket Math: This program is designed to increase students’ math facts fluency (speed/accuracy). Your child will bring home their test daily. Students can practice by using the test they take home that day. (it will take about 5 minutes)
Addition/Subtraction Facts: Students coming into 3rd grade are expected to know their basic addition facts to 20. We will not spend much time practicing those in school and if your child is behind, they will need to practice these at home nightly to catch up. We will begin using the “Rocket Math” program the 2nd or 3rd week of school. We will begin with the subtraction facts. Our goal is to have every students pass their subtraction facts by November when we begin Multiplication.
Multiplication/Division Facts: It is expected that students know (memorize) all the multiplication/division facts from 0 – 10. The only way that this can be accomplished is through daily practice! I have never had a student who accomplished this task without practicing at school and at home. I highly recommend that students/parents either make or buy (usually no more than $2 a pack) a set of flash cards and spend at least 10 minutes per day practicing them. Again we will be using the “Rocket Math” program to pass off our facts. Watch for their papers to come home daily.
Please sign the bottom of the homework packet when it is completed and return the packet by the last school day of the week.
Book Projects: A few times a year I will send home a book project for students to complete along with their homework. I will send a note of explanation of the assignment.
